Write a reflection about the classes you oriented this week (bear in mind the following aspects: what you planned, what you did, and what you would do differently if you were to teach your lessons again). Give examples and descriptions of those situations that, in your view, are relevant to your learning experience.

First grade. On Monday we started a new topic that was personal information. I started introducing myself and students had to guess what the topic was about, in fact, they guessed that the topic was personal information. Then, I made questions to students about their favorite animal, favorite color and so on. Finally, they had to complete a format or handout with their personal information and they had as homework to prepare an oral a small presentation about themselves taking into account the information that they wrote in the handout. On Wednesday, I had prepared a listening about 5 kids talking about their personal information and students had to complete a format according to the listening. The format had some blanks such as “name, age, favorite color, favorite animal and favorite number” that students had to complete. I was not sure about this activity because maybe it could not work as I was expecting. I was not completely sure to do this activity but I made the decision because I know the capacities that they have in order to complete the activity. In fact, they performed very well the activity, was easy for them to gather the information that they needed. The only issue was that a girl did not know to write, but she gathered all the information from the listening, in this case, she reported me orally the information that she gathered from the listening.

Second grade. We started a new topic that was about clothes and accessories. I presented the vocabulary with flashcards, then we did practice activities such as I mentioned a cloth or accessory and students had to say which was it in Spanish, the other activity was that I had a vocabulary word to a student and s/he had to make charades and their classmates had to guess what it was. Then, we played bingo and finally, students named kind of clothes that they wear on some occasions. For instance, they mentioned that at the school they wear uniform, at party girls wear dresses and the boys wear elegant shirts with jeans. We did not have class on Wednesday with them because it was the teacher’s day celebration.

Kindergarten. We started the class with a song that they are learning, then I exposed the numbers from 1 to 10 around the classroom. I played some music and students had to walk or dance around the classroom.  I stopped the music suddenly, I called out a number and students had to go and touch the number that I mentioned. They performed very well the activity and they liked it a lot, I also liked the fact that they were dancing and at the same time they were practicing numbers. We continued playing “Simon Says” using the music and the same dynamic but in this case in making groups of people. The other activity was scramble numbers where students had to order the sequence of numbers. We also played a bingo and memory card game. I have to prepare many activities with them because they perform the activities very well and in a quick way.

Educational Autobiography

Educational Autobiography I studied the five years of my primary education in the countryside. As we know, the majority of the schools in the countryside are far away from home, I had to walk 30 minutes every day to arrive school. When I was in third grade I deserted school for 3 months. I did not want to go to study because days ago my family had received an anonymous letter asking for money and threaten us if we did not do what they want or if maybe we tell the police about what was happening to us. I was so scared and I thought that if I go to school maybe those bad people arrive home and something horrible could happen to my family. When the nightmare for us finished, the school teacher send me a letter telling me that it had been three months in which I did not attend to class also, that I had some many absences and if I did not arrive at school I could fail third grade, so I decided to go back at school. I finished my primary education there and I always was the best in school...

Metaphor

Students are a blank piece of paper, a symbol of limitless potential. Teachers are the pen that fills up the paper with knowledge of both the world and the curriculum; with tips and tools that the students may employ as they learn to navigate the world on their own. Teachers are the hands that fold the paper into an airplane and make the students feel as if they could fly. Teachers are the recyclers that find a purpose for the sheet that was previously cast aside. As a pen, teachers fill the minds of students with basic theory’s, concepts and terms to establish a general knowledge base about the world we live in. Teachers can foster self-esteem in children by acknowledging or rewarding exceptional efforts. When a teacher believes in a child, a child will believe in a teacher and feel as though they can tackle anything (feel like they can fly). Lastly, it is the unfortunate truth that, for whatever reason, some students feel as though they are left behind. This does not...

On Monday, students had to complete a format with their personal information, also they had to study that information because they will introduce themselves in the other classrooms such as kindergarten and second grade. Only one student finished to complete the format with her information, she went to second graders to introduce herself, she did it very well and second grader’s students understood it. On Wednesday, all the students had to introduce themselves to another class...
