Write a reflection about the classes you oriented this week (bear in mind the following aspects: what you planned, what you did, and what you would do differently if you were to teach your lessons again). Give examples and descriptions of those situations that, in your view, are relevant to your learning experience.

In this week I had classes with first graders only on Monday because Wednesday was holiday. On Monday, we continued with the same topic that was colors. It was an easy topic for them, for that reason they did very good the activities, without any problem, all of them were participating actively. In regard to my innovation plan, I have noticed that students are performing very well the first task that I gave to them. In the next week, I will give the second task to them.

With second graders, I also had classes only on Monday. That day, we started a new topic that was about numbers from 20 to 30. I presented the numbers with flashcards, then I did an exercise on the board, we counted the numbers from 1 to 30 and then I said a number and a student passed to the board and circle or pointed out the number that I mentioned before. I planned the previous activity as something that I did not know if it could work, but in fact, it did. Students participated actively, they seemed to know all the numbers very well because they wanted to continue with the numbers until 40. I could notice with the activity that two students did not know very well the numbers from 10 to 20. I will make more activities in the following classes and I will be focused on them to see their progress.

Thursday I had class with kindergarten. The language focus was positions up and down I had planned 6 activities of 10 minutes. I presented the topic using arrows, they understood it. One of the activities that I had planned was that the teacher will name a position and students will perform it, for example, I said hands up or hand down, or stand up, or sit down. When I did that activity, it was a hard time for me because this course is not well behaved and when I did it they stand up of their chairs but they did not want to sit down, they took it as a joke and I felt frustrated. Then I gave a handout to color and they calmed. The truth is that kindergarten is giving me a hard time, they always want to play, or jump or shout, or do something different from the class. I think that they haven’t the routine of classes because they didn’t have a break to go and play or if they have it, they have their break in the classroom, for that reason I think that they haven’t assimilated in what time they can play and what’s the time for play. On Friday, they arrived late to my class because they were doing an extra activity in the school and we only had 30 minutes of class in which we did a review of the topic, an activity and that was it. I had planned another two activities with handouts but they couldn’t do it in class, I gave them as homework.

Comments

  1. I think that working with kids is incredibly nice and fulfilling because they really want to learn. "I could notice with the activity that two students did not know very well the numbers from 10 to 20." I think it was really nice how you noticed this problem here and how you focused it. Also, I think is impressive how you can manage to do six activities in one hour that is real talent there using at its max the classroom management and time management.

Educational Autobiography

Educational Autobiography I studied the five years of my primary education in the countryside. As we know, the majority of the schools in the countryside are far away from home, I had to walk 30 minutes every day to arrive school. When I was in third grade I deserted school for 3 months. I did not want to go to study because days ago my family had received an anonymous letter asking for money and threaten us if we did not do what they want or if maybe we tell the police about what was happening to us. I was so scared and I thought that if I go to school maybe those bad people arrive home and something horrible could happen to my family. When the nightmare for us finished, the school teacher send me a letter telling me that it had been three months in which I did not attend to class also, that I had some many absences and if I did not arrive at school I could fail third grade, so I decided to go back at school. I finished my primary education there and I always was the best in school...

Metaphor

Students are a blank piece of paper, a symbol of limitless potential. Teachers are the pen that fills up the paper with knowledge of both the world and the curriculum; with tips and tools that the students may employ as they learn to navigate the world on their own. Teachers are the hands that fold the paper into an airplane and make the students feel as if they could fly. Teachers are the recyclers that find a purpose for the sheet that was previously cast aside. As a pen, teachers fill the minds of students with basic theory’s, concepts and terms to establish a general knowledge base about the world we live in. Teachers can foster self-esteem in children by acknowledging or rewarding exceptional efforts. When a teacher believes in a child, a child will believe in a teacher and feel as though they can tackle anything (feel like they can fly). Lastly, it is the unfortunate truth that, for whatever reason, some students feel as though they are left behind. This does not...

On Monday, students had to complete a format with their personal information, also they had to study that information because they will introduce themselves in the other classrooms such as kindergarten and second grade. Only one student finished to complete the format with her information, she went to second graders to introduce herself, she did it very well and second grader’s students understood it. On Wednesday, all the students had to introduce themselves to another class...
