Write a
reflection about the classes you oriented this week (bear in mind the following
aspects: what you planned, what you did, and what you would do differently if you were to teach your lessons
again). Give examples and descriptions of those situations that, in your view,
are relevant to your learning experience.
In this week I
had classes with first graders only on Monday because Wednesday was holiday. On
Monday, we continued with the same topic that was colors. It was an easy topic
for them, for that reason they did very good the activities, without any
problem, all of them were participating actively. In regard to my innovation
plan, I have noticed that students are performing very well the first task that
I gave to them. In the next week, I will give the second task to them.
With second
graders, I also had classes only on Monday. That day, we started a new topic
that was about numbers from 20 to 30. I presented the numbers with flashcards,
then I did an exercise on the board, we counted the numbers from 1 to 30 and
then I said a number and a student passed to the board and circle or pointed
out the number that I mentioned before. I planned the previous activity as
something that I did not know if it could work, but in fact, it did. Students
participated actively, they seemed to know all the numbers very well because
they wanted to continue with the numbers until 40. I could notice with the
activity that two students did not know very well the numbers from 10 to 20. I
will make more activities in the following classes and I will be focused on them
to see their progress.
Thursday I had
class with kindergarten. The language focus was positions up and down I had
planned 6 activities of 10 minutes. I presented the topic using arrows, they
understood it. One of the activities that I had planned was that the teacher will
name a position and students will perform it, for example, I said hands up or
hand down, or stand up, or sit down. When I did that activity, it was a hard
time for me because this course is not well behaved and when I did it they
stand up of their chairs but they did not want to sit down, they took it as a
joke and I felt frustrated. Then I gave a handout to color and they calmed.
The truth is that kindergarten is giving me a hard time, they always want to
play, or jump or shout, or do something different from the class. I think that
they haven’t the routine of classes because they didn’t have a break to go and
play or if they have it, they have their break in the classroom, for that
reason I think that they haven’t assimilated in what time they can play and
what’s the time for play. On Friday, they arrived late to my class because they
were doing an extra activity in the school and we only had 30 minutes of class
in which we did a review of the topic, an activity and that was it. I had
planned another two activities with handouts but they couldn’t do it in class,
I gave them as homework.

I think that working with kids is incredibly nice and fulfilling because they really want to learn. "I could notice with the activity that two students did not know very well the numbers from 10 to 20." I think it was really nice how you noticed this problem here and how you focused it. Also, I think is impressive how you can manage to do six activities in one hour that is real talent there using at its max the classroom management and time management.
